PERRY HAD NAMED HIS SHIP AFTER CAPTAIN JAMES LAWRENCE, THE HERO OF AN EARLIER SEA BATTLE OFF NEW ENGLAND WHOSE DYING WORDS WERE “DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP”.
